Judge Stephen Byard made these comments – Overall Printing techniques and choice of papers across most of the images is excellent and conveys thought about the art of the printing. A mix of familiar and unfamiliar places with varying subjects keeps the judges interest high throughout the box. Photographers have been prepared to put across their own interpretation and thoughts about a subject
Any points for improvement are few, generally minor, and often relate to events not easy for the photographer to control
About the winning image – A print of the coast conveying a great sense of quality and depth. Crisp and colourful throughout, we feel close enough to the foreground rocks to reach out and touch them, then get up and walk into a beautiful scene. The image feels balanced and controlled with regard to its point of view, exposure and colour. The low sun provides both highlight and shadows and the cliff reflection ideally placed. The photographer has certainly made us feel that we were there.
